< Back to News Home Mark White To Race in the German VLN Endurance Series at the Nürburgring

Posted (03/23/2010) -

Madison, WI – Grand-Am series regular Mark White has been signed by Green Hell Racing to campaign one of their BMW M3's in the VLN Endurance Series. White will compete in the season opening ADAC Westfalenfahrt four hour race at the famed Nürburgring in Germany on March 26-27, 2010.

White was recommended to Green Hell Racing by his ex-teammate, German TV celebrity and "Queen of the Nürburgring," Sabine Schmitz. The race will be White's debut in the historic German series that features a season long series of races exclusively on the world's toughest road circuit, the Nürburgring.

The four hour race will be run on the “combined” circuit, which couples the 12.93 mile Nordschleife track together with the new 3.23 mile ”Grand Prix Circuit” (home to Formula One races). The resulting lap stretches just over 16 miles through the countryside of the Eifel Mountains. The northern loop (Nordschleife) of the course is also known as the Green Hell (Grüne Hölle), because of its long, difficult and dangerous path through the mountains and forests.

White is excited to compete against friend Schmitz at the four hour, a race that attracts the best drivers and manufacturers in the world.

When asked about joining the series, White said:

"The Nürburgring has been on my mind since I first visited the track in 2006. I was given the chance to drive a few laps and I was instantly hooked. To be presented with the opportunity to race the Ring in a BMW, with such a strong team, is truly a dream come true.

Green Hell Racing really knows their way around BMW's and they have developed a fantastic program for 2010. I really look forward to being back in a BMW and competing against world-class competition on such a notorious track! I want to additionally express my gratitude toward Sabine for paving the way to make this happen. I also can't thank my sponsors enough for their continued support. I would not be racing if it weren't for Team Janica Racing, Accumoto Motorsport, Prairie Hills Motorsport Club, 2BKOOL, Chin Motorsports, Duraform, Sideline Sports Photography, Throttle Threads and Hammer Nutrition.

The abbreviation ?VLN' stands for ‘Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring’ (Organizers Association Endurance Championship Nürburgring). The VLN is the official sanctioning body of the world famous 24 Hours of Nürburgring, a race attracting over 700 drivers and 290,000 spectators. There are 30 total classes in four divisions, ranging from moderately modified sports cars to factory built and supported efforts, many over 700hp. Each race sees between one and four drivers share a car, depending on race length and team strategy.

Mark's race goes off at 2pm Local Time in Germany (8am EST). He will be providing race updates as well as posting photos at www.gomarkwhite.com throughout the race weekend.
