Road America shows West Race Cars dominate and Major endorsement for IMSA LitesTM through 2011
Portland, Oregon. West Race Cars dominated once again in IMSA Lites at Road America over the weekend finishing 1-2-3 in class in race 7 and 8. Duncan Ende, driving the factory West WR1000, put in two great drives claiming the win both events. Said Ende after the race, "The car is absolutely awesome. It's incredibly light and feels like half the weight of the Atlantic car I drove earlier this year. It's well-balanced and one of the most forgiving cars I have ever driven. Every time out in it is such a blast."
Mark White also demonstrated great drives in both heats finishing second behind Ende after leading several laps in the first event and quietly adding points to his championship tally. The two races also showed Robbie Card and Dan Mcbreen as serious threats in any event with each of them rounding out the podium in race 1 and 2 respectively. Mcbreen heads into race 9&10 at Petit LeMans with the Lites 2 points lead but faces serious competition from Ende, Card and White.
The other highlight from the IMSA Lites weekend was the announcement from Tim Mayer, Chief Operating Officer of the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), a commitment to the series through 2011. "The IMSA Lites championship has proven to be a great series" said Mayer, "if the series is going to carry the IMSA name then it needs to be managed to the high standards we demand for the other championships we manage."
Mayer went on to highlight the "Technical Partnership" with West Race Cars and his ongoing commitment to West's participation in the series. The 2007 season will kick off with Mayer and IMSA firmly in control of the championship and according to Mayer a complete set of rules and schedule should be announced within thirty days.
