< Back to News Home White Sweeps Rounds Seven and Eight of The IMSA Lites Championship at The Grand Prix of Mosport!

Posted (08/26/2007) - Bowmanville, Ontario Rain or shine made little difference to Mark White during the IMSA Lites Rounds Seven and Eight at Canada's famed Mosport Park. Proving to be an all weather performer, White, of Madison, WI claimed class wins during both races in spite of track conditions ranging from slick to down right treacherous. He negotiated early carnage in a rain plagued race one and mounted a late surge for the lead driving the #02 Accumoto Motorsport, ThrottleThreads.com, TeamJanicaRacing, Performance Drink, Duraform, West WR07. When asked about his wet weather performance, White remarked; " Strategy played a huge role for us in in the rain. I knew patience was the key as I was certain that we were going to see a bunch of yellows and the race would come to us. I just tried to remain focused on finding the grip and not getting caught up in someone elses crash!" White went on to say; "I have a tremendous respect for Dan Mcbreen's ability to wheel it in the rain. I was afraid if I showed my hand too soon, he might put up a real fight. Luckily, it seems as if the timing was good because not only was I able to suprise him on the restart, I was actually able to get a little breathing room so the last few laps didn't turn out to be as hairy as they could have been." White gained more than "a little breathing room" as he was actually outpacing Mcbreen by over 3 seconds a lap as the checker flew. These fast laps also provided a fantastic starting position 9 spots ahead of Mcbreen in race two as the second race grid is determined by the lap times of the first. Sunday morning's race two also proved to be greasy at the start due to overnight rains that washed the rubber from the track and the light fog that lingered as the IMSA Lites cars took to the grid. White responded immediately by again outpacing his competition in the slick conditions. His pace resulted in a 17 second lead by the mid point of the race. He then found the "quick" setting on the cruise control and again took the checker for the class win. In fact, he was the only L2 class car on the lead lap! White's post-race quote follows: "I knew I had to take advantage of conditions early. I was really hoping to check out and build a good gap. Fortunately, I was able to stick to that plan." " The hardest part actually was to not get lured into racing the L1 guys. I really had to keep my eye on the championship fight with Robbie (Card) and not give in to the desire to keep pushing at eleven-tenths. This is especialy difficult when you have a run on the fellow in front of you and he is in the faster class. The racer in you is screaming "do it!" but your crew chief is saying "bring it home" although I suspect Doug (Crew Chief Doug Turnbull) was saying one thing and thinking the other!" "Doug and Josh (Team member Josh Truitt) are really the guys who deserve all the credit this weekend. They ignored miserable conditions and worked incredibly hard to provide me with a great car. This was our first time here and as a driver you never want to learn a high speed, high consequence track in the wet but they gave me a car that I could develop real confidence in right out of the gate. That is what really led to the result we achieved." "I would also like thank a new sponsor, Team Janica Racing, that recently came on board. We could not do this without them! The weekend closed the gap in the L2 championship between White and Card to 6 points. They meet again during Rounds Nine and Ten of the 2007 IMSA Lites Championship presented by Hankook at the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, October 4th and 5th.
